normally we here at who reads this are for the most part not in favor of weddings. however this weekend i've had a change of heart. I dont mind weddings so long as I am a groomsman with my best friends. I had a blast. i love my friends when we are all together. its so much fun, it was like old times. I'll probably be doing this a few more times in the next few years cause i'm betting ryan or chris will get married soon. we'll see. kinda neat.
I also liked being on the sidelines watching things unfold for jake. i think things won't even change too much now that he's married.
i hope my friends and i continue to live somewhat close to each other. we've been lucky to have been friends for so long that i dont want that to end. anyway i'm rambling. point is, this was a fun weekend. and now i have to go back to work tuesday. booo.

unusual occurance at the built to spill show last night
Quick rundown first (this is important to whats unusual):
The show was at the Madrid theatre in downtown KC. I've seen a couple of shows here (Modest Mouse, Interpol). Its a spanish themed theatre and its apparently well known for its weekly salsa dancing nights. A quick glance at the fairly young all ages crowd immediately showed built to spill's inability to connect to anyone but the whitest of whitebreads. I digress.
The ticket said 8pm for the showtime.
First band went on at 9:15, played for about 45 minutes. They were terrible even though they included about half the built to spill members. Really boring, droning, guitar wankery with a lead singer that sounded like a depressed eddie veddar.
Built to Spill takes the stage around 10:15pm. Great setlist. Equally covered all their records plus played some unknown (to me) covers and some really early stuff from before There's Nothing Wrong with Love. Suprisingly there was no new songs; I thought thats what this tour was for. Anyway, a few highlights were some of my favs like Perfect from now on's Kicked it in the Sun and I would hurt a Fly; Keep it like a secret's Plan and Carry the Zero, Ancient Melodie's Strange, and my personal highlight of the whole show, Stab off of There's nothing wrong with love. That might be my favorite song of theirs.
The show lasted over 2 hours which made the somewhat high ticket price of $18 worth it. What was unusual though was near the front of the stage where we were there was a kid (under 21) complaining and yelling at Doug Martsch because they went on "2 hours late". About halfway through the set Doug finally acknowledged him by saying they had problems with the PA system and after telling the kid that he could leave anytime he wants and saying FU to the kid, the kid held out his hand and wanted his money back. Doug then asked how much he paid for his ticket, which the kid said $20. So Doug reaches into his backpack that he had on stage, pulls out a $20 and hands it to the kid. The kid is then escorted out by the staff. Everyone cheers of course.
Why the kid was so pissed about "going on late" is beyond me. I don't know who expects a show to start at the time on the ticket. Unless you are at kemper or sandstone (which is probably the only places that kid has seen a show). It all seemed normal to me as far as the time goes. It was funny that Doug paid the kid to leave though. I doubt I'll see that again.

star wars
went to the midnight showing of star wars episode 3. that makes it 3 for 3 on star wars midnight shows. anyway it was good, much better than the first 2 newer movies. only thing that can really be taken from it is anakin probably wouldn't have turned to the dark side had it not been for his woman. to be fair, it WAS Natalie Portman. She is hot. No doubt about that.

might be the funniest thing i’ve ever read
http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/features/artistlists/c/cross_david-05/
Its essential that you read this article. Whether you read pitchfork or know the comedy of david cross this is without a doubt pure comedy genius. Please do yourself a favor and read this whole article. Totally made my day.
The context is making up records to listen to while reading overdone album reviews (an excerpt):
9). Slogging through the review of Emperor X's Central Hug/Friendarmy/Fractaldunes (And the Dreams that Resulted) (sample: "…the aesthetic of Emperor X's recording belies its craft. Homemade and sometimes grungily recorded, the latest record by Chad Matheny's one-man band delivers jitter– and indie pop that practically gnaws its own arm with excitement") to try to find out if you might like it
Then don't listen to: ThunderPussy When the Wild Birds Sing. You can only shine a turd so many times before it gleans as bright as a six-year-old girl's ass cheek on Christmas morning. ThunderPussy answers the question, How many times does one need to shine a turd before it gleans as bright as a six year old girls ass cheek on Christmas morning? The answer according to ThunderPussy is, 12. 12 is the number of tracks on this cd each one of the same song, "Star Wars!" And they all suck except for the last one which shines just like a six-year-old girls ass on Christmas Morning. It's true. RATING: 4.Point

and finally…some good news
out of nowhere i got in the mail a letter from kstate that i was to receive a scholarship for the next school year. It is modest in amount, and broken between two semesters, but since i'm only taking two classes this fall it does manage to cover about 40% of my tuition. I'll take what i can get. what is most odd though is i applied for it when i completed my re-admittence form to kstate, and at that time, it was two weeks past the due date for scholarship applications. dunno why i still filled it out, but i'm darn glad i did. sometimes God surprises us like that.
Still waiting to see if i have a place to live though…

and she’s off to the land where the ill-fated ex-gf’s lie
This week i'll be sending off an old friend, a girl i dated in high school. Lauren is leaving for colorado to some small resort town to work full time. I'm happy she's getting a chance to clean the slate and start over somewhere else. emporia probably wasn't the greatest thing for her. she joins another ex, tiffany, who also lives in colorado with her long time bf. Just kinda funny how they both ended up there.
And in other unrelated news, i'll be taking a trip to colorado with some old kstate friends in june. gonna road trip out there and stay in jason's uncle's cabin for a week. should do some rafting and hiking and fishing and playing games and such. i'm excited. been about a year since i've had a "real" vacation.
nuther thing: i can't wait to quit my job. i had a run-in with my boss friday (they seem to be more and more frequent) and this job doesnt pay well and i really wonder how well things will run there after i leave. but thats their problem. i'm never going back. i can't wait for school this fall and going back to manhattan.
