just a general update on what i'm doing starting next month and what i may do if i end up hating the class i'm in.
i'm moving back into my parents house this saturday, july 30th.
my last day at hillcrest is aug. 12th.
the first day of class is aug 23rd.
i have 3 weeks to decide if i will stick it out with the new professor in my cases in finance course. if i dont, i will drop both classes and re-enroll in the spring with the professor i thought i was going to have this fall. i have confirmed with the professor i wanted that he is teaching in the spring. i decided it wouldn't make any sense to take one class each semester and commute both semesters. too expensive.
if i drop classes i will get a part time job and try to work 25-30 hours. if i stay in my classes i won't work at all till after graduation. somewhat of an incentive there.
so there you go.

intonation reiteration
this is a long one so read at your own risk/boredom.
just got back from a nice little midsummer weekend stop in chicago for some music. the intonation music fest, probably the first real big time indie music fest that was very resonably priced and close by, was pretty awesome.
Jake, Pat, and I traveled up by car friday and stayed at jake's great uncles house. kudos to them for letting us crash there for free. saturday we rode the "L" to union park for the festival. We didn't end up going in until about the 3rd band but that was more or less by design. The first band any of us wanted to see was AC Newman and he didn't disapoint. played a solid set, nearly all his newest album cuts. A few bands later was Broken Social Scene. We got up close for them and they played well too. Least I got to hear my fav two songs, kc accidental and sons and stars. pat actually enjoyed that show, and he hates pretty much everything. we skipped a couple of the late bands that we didn't really care about to go downtown and eat at a place called big bowl. odd coincidence at big bowl, a girl hosting there graduated from olathe east in 2003.
Some lowlights for saturday were the go! team (go go go! team team team!) and um well probably all the walking we had to do to get downtown (serious lack of buses that night). Overall the first day was probably only worth the extra $7 for the 2 day pass. the real fun was going to come on sunday.
Sunday was a hot and dusty one. Got there shortly before the first band, some punkish band called thunderbirds are now. we played frisbee a lot, had our shirts off most of the day, refilled our water bottles about 10 times, got covered in dust, but man, when les savy fav came on, it was alllll worth it. But let me cover a few other things first. the whole show was staged in this baseball park near downtown chicago. so there was a lot of loose infield dirt that got kicked up. one of the stages was right in this dirt infield, so as everyone is jumping around a big cloud goes up and everyone inhales dust. yum. one thing that was nice was that water was $1 a bottle and you could refill it for free, although the water trough had long lines most of sunday.
xiu xiu was the 3rd band to play. that was the reason pat came. jake and i could have cared less for them but pat liked it. bunch of experimental stuff.
a few bands latter deerhoof came on and played a short but sweet set. that band is much better in a small setting (i got that feeling with a lot of the bands).
after deerhoof jake went to watch the wrens (an ok mellow rock band) while pat and i got up as close as we could for les savy fav (basically one from the front). wow i had no idea what to expect. tim harrington is easily the most engaging, crazy, crowd inducing singer i've ever seen. he's this early 40s looking bearded bald tubby guy who wore tight shorts and a tight shirt. he took the shirt off on the first song and well, clealry had no problem showing off his body. he threw sponges in the crowd, brought his own slip and slide and slid into the crowd, got everyone in the crowd (15,000+ strong) to sit down then stand up, poured beer all over himself and down his pants, and just basically was the most enjoyable concert experience i've had since the final d-plan show i saw in st. louis. there was a good amount of moshing and crowd surfing up front so extra dust for everyone there. at one point they threatened to shut the show down if the crowd didn't move away from the stage. seeing this band just made the whole trip worth it. i'd pay another $25 just to see them again. there was really no point in staying for the decemberists after that show. so we only stayed for about an hour of their show.
pretty sweet weekend, enjoyed a few days off work too. can't wait till no more work.

uh oh a blogthing
the friendster redesign appears to be pretty effective. good job to them i say.
i got a seemingly fake friendster message yesterday from a really hot girl who just moved to kc from miami and wanted to meet me and bla bla. i was sure it was fake and sure enough when i looked at her profile today it was suspended by friendster (it wasn't suspended yesterday). does this happen to other people? i mean the message actually looked legit other than the fact that it is highly unlikely that would really happen to me or most guys. its sorta a strange fantasy some dudes might have about sites like friendster. that some hot girl will message out of nowhere and ask to meet you. sorry, but i'm waaaaayyy to ahead of the curve to fall for that one. some might say i'm a realist….

miffed
everything was going along peachily till today i read my kstate webmail that i forgot about and the professor i emailed about a class i'm taking this fall informed me that he in fact won't be teaching this fall, but will in the spring. Now, one of the main reasons I knew this fall was time to go back to school was because a particular professor was teaching finance 675. now that he's not i'm back to being completely uninspired to go back. this really sucks.
i'm still going to give it a go for now, but if the class really really blows like i'm thinking it might with this other guy teaching, i may have to drop and take it in the spring. if i do that, i dunno how its going to work out. bleh. i really wanted to have this all done this december but this really kinks things. stupid class schedule changing. grrr its so annoying. i was all ready to go. i put in my resignation at work and have decided to move back home for the semester. now who knows.
I was so miffed tonight I decided to get my mind off of it by starting my 2005 fantasy football draft preparations.
in other news i'm getting better at golf with each round i'm playing lately. its got me excited enough to practice and want to play every week. i basically quit playing the past 3 years because i didnt have time to play or the money. now i have both. hopefully i can keep it up and it will be my official "hobby that i can be average at" of the moment.
essential musings
man the creek area behind our apartment really smells, especially with this nasty muggy humidity we have now.
i think i can reasonably confirm that the principle hang out for fat people is wal-mart. its gotten to the point now that i can barely shop there because of it. i mean, i go there for most of my groceries and i come away not wanting to buy any food because i just lose my appetite. we aren't talking about just slightly chubby people (i myself even prefer curvier women), we are talking about the walking obese. its really disgusting. i'll see these people buying food and i'm thinking to myself, um, you really dont need to buy that. its clear that they have just given up on any self respect. sad. –begin slightly politcal rant…now!– and yet I have to pay for it through higher health care. hopefully, like we have with smoking, our society will start really penalizing people whose self inflicted poor health cause medical bills to rise. Look for it. its coming. there will be higher premiums for irresponsible people. –end slightly political rant….now!–
have a good day!
