good news on the school front

Filed under: School — Andy @ 1:47 pm

the kstate spring schedule was released today and the professor i wanted is listed for the class i need. This was expected, but I'm glad to see it in writing. Looks like i'll have a Tues/Thur commute with class from 1130-220. My classes will be back to back in that time. Looking forward to it. I think. Enrollment is still a few weeks away. My scholarship i was going to get this fall was switched to the spring also. So things are falling into place so far. course, i've been here before….

K-State is back!

Filed under: Bowling, K-State Sports — Andy @ 11:13 pm

hot stuff kstate was on fire saturday as they finally broke out and dominated someone. easily the best performance since the big 12 title game in 2003, kstate nearly played a perfect game. even though it was against n. texas, it was good to see us return to how things used to be against these type of teams. in the past it has translated to a lot of big 12 wins.
The key issues of turnovers and penalties were solved. the offense set a school record for yards, the defense held north texas to under 100 yards and zero points until the last drive against the 2nd and 3rd teamers, there was a punt return for a td, and we kicked a 57 yard fg. can't ask for much more.
now lets take this show to norman!
bowling average update: 134
had a rough week and half or so but got back on track last night with 4 games averaging 155. i think i've gotten into a routine now. just need to be consistent.
current goal: get average to 150

time for another half-assed hobby

Filed under: Bowling — Andy @ 12:11 am

except this time i'm going to try and use my WHOLE ass.
Over the years I've had a number of hobbies, and most of them i am usually just average at. The most consistent is video games, i'm pretty good at those. Another was golf, i'm pretty awful at that. Then drums, I got to be ok at them. But I'm still searching for that hobbie that I can keep enjoying, be able to do it without costing a ton, and be able to improve at it without it being super time consuming or too frustrating. Plus, have it be something I can enjoy with friends. I think I found it in bowling.
I've been playing quite a bit over the past 3-4 months. I recently bought a ball and am really trying to learn the game and improve. I currently average 135, with a high game of 210. I throw a straight ball, which means i won't be a great strike thrower for now. I'm mainly trying to develop my spare shooting and overall throwing consistency. When I get my average closer to 150, I'll get another ball, a heavier ball meant for hook throwing, and learn the hook. Hopefully then I can take my average into the 180s. All of this will take a great deal of time but I'm excited to really get going on this.
Bowling is something I dont mind doing by myself either. Being a single guy, this gives me something to do when I'm bored. There are at least 4 nights a week where It doesn't cost much to play so unlike golf, I can really improve faster.
Anywhooo…just wanted to talk about that for a bit. I will probably post my average every once in a while.
P.S. Wednesday night when I bowled i threw 6 strikes in a row, a new record for me. Unfortunately it came after a rough start so i "only" ended up with a 192.

the future

Filed under: Job — Andy @ 10:02 pm

i was kinda vague in my last post about how i will have a tough choice come next may after i graduate. Even though i will go part time after i restart classes in january, its assumed a full time position at gold bank would still be available. its a guaranteed $30k+ year job. However, I have a desire to go to train conductor school at JCCC. I found out about the program from a mailer and also from will's dad who works at juco. Basically its a 6 week hardcore full time training in the world of trains. you come out of it ready to be a conductor. It has a 90% hiring rate, they interview you right during the program. It is pretty expensive though, over 4 grand. So it is a risk. But, its something i'm really interested in and jobs in the train industry pay really really well. like i have the potential to make twice as much as i would at gold bank. sooo… you can see i will have a dilemma. right now i'm pretty gung ho about going into that program next summer. guess just have to take things one thing at a time.

got a job

Filed under: Job — Andy @ 1:19 pm

got hired at Gold Bank, pending a drug test. which of course is a 50/50 proposition at best.
"Marge you tested positive for crack and pcp"
will probably start either monday or tuesday depending on when the drug results come in. I got a pretty good offer which makes things a little more difficult after I graduate in May. But that is a while away, for now I'll enjoy what has come my way.

weekly update

Filed under: Job, K-State Sports — Andy @ 4:19 am

i guess since i haven't updated in a week, that this is a true weekly update. so monday i interviewed for a job at gold bank. then yesterday they called back for a 2nd interview which i went to. both went all right i thought. its hard for me to tell, i'm not very good at interviews. probably cause i'm myself too much. but anyway, hopefully early next week i'll know if i have a job.
fantasy football draft was last night. it wasn't one of my better ones but i'll certainly be competitive. it may end up being my best one when its all said and done for all i know. my 3 studs are culpepper at qb, owens at wr, and mcgahee at rb. depth could be an issue for me. but whatever, i won't bore you with more of that till next week at least.
i'll be at the kstate game later today. i can say that cause its stupid early saturday morning. i can't sleep. hopefully i can enjoy the game somewhat. kstate should win huge, like 50 points. then i'll just come home and sleep my saturday night away.
