2005 Album of the Year List

Filed under: Music — Andy @ 5:18 pm

whew this was one of the weakest music years in a long time.  Out of all the records I downloaded I only ended up buying 3 this year.  The rest I generally kept a song or two and made a mix CD.  It appears with the advent of mp3’s that the idea of a complete album is really going by the wayside in favor of strong singles.  Or maybe bands are lazy or not as creative or maybe it was just a fluke year.

Here is my top 5:

1. Sigur Ros: Takk Takk...

2. Boy Least Likely: Best Party Ever The Best Party Ever

3. Decemberists: Picaresque Picaresque

4 (tie). Spoon: Gimme Fiction Gimme Fiction

4 (tie). Broken Social Scene: Broken Social Scene Broken Social Scene

Honorable mention: Sufjan Stevens-Come on feel the illinois, Bloc Party-Silent Alarm

ok a lot going on

i really should do a better job of updating this thing.
on Wednesday Dec 21st I bought a new used car. I did end up junking the 86 camry that i talked about in my last post. the car i got is a 1994 white Honda Civic LX with about 103,000 miles on it. It was in great condition visually and ran well. things like the A/C worked and all the power options. the moonroof didn't open but it has one. got it for $4000. only thing that bugged me was it was due for a timing belt change which will cost at least $300. oh well. thems the breaks.
On Thursday December 29th I resigned from Gold bank. It was a mutual resignation, the situation wasn't working for me or my co-workers. In my opinion it was a poorly managed location and frankly being expected to be in two places at once and work more than 8 hours a day and 40 hrs a week didn't interest me. Its all for the better; more and more i didnt want to work while going back to school. only thing that stunk was i could have used the extra money for the car i just bought, but i've saved enough by living at home the past 5 months.
Speaking of school, it starts Jan 12th. I go every tues/thur to Manhattan for class, i'll be commuting. Getting this new car was a blessing in disguise for this situation.
Yesterday I bought a new bowling ball. its a 15lb brunswick power groove reactive. Got it professionally drilled with finger inserts. I like it a lot, I think it will really improve my game and allow me to throw a hook ball. I tried it out some last night and it felt great. having never really thrown a good hook (i had the motion down but without a reactive ball it doesnt really work) i did ok, started with a 116, then a 128, then a 155. I'm excited about it. Chance to boost my sagging average of 135. I'm hoping within a year or so i could maybe average like 180. wishful thinking probably, but i plan on playing in a league soon so that should help.
well thats my update for now. i'll try to update more often.
later.

car died

Filed under: Car — Andy @ 10:31 pm

well apparently 262,000 miles was enough. the timing belt snapped while i was driving back to work from lunch today. had to have it towed and well its done in my eyes. i'm not spending a couple hundred to have it fixed, especially if there could still be internal damage. so i'll be car shopping now. yippee.
