give the “choice” back to the people

Filed under: Politics — Andy @ 11:43 pm

just this past week we passed the 33rd anniversary of the grossest interpretation of the constituion ever.  Like the Dred Scott case before it, Roe v Wade is now laughable amongst people who study constitutional law.  Since that fated decision ultra sound was invented and we’ve learned a lot about DNA.  Its now proven that the embryo carries a completely different DNA from that of the sperm and egg.  Thus, making a brand new entity separate from the mother.  This separate entity, which has a beating heart after 4 short weeks, deserves its own rights under the constitution.

Now I understand that there are just going to be people who can’t stand to be inconvenienced in life, especially when its their own fault. So lets at least return this debate to the people.  Its silly that 9 justices can literally put 1.2 million American lives a year in their own hands.  Overturn Roe and lets make it a state by state issue again.

P.S. My bowling average is up to 140!

Pres was in town

Filed under: School — Andy @ 7:03 pm

got to see President Bush speak today at K-State.  Probably the only time i’ll see a current President in person and i really enjoyed it.  He gave a great speech about all the goings on in the world and did it with good humor, responsiveness to the crowd, answered questions well, and did a good job explaining his decisions.

The whole deal made me proud to attend a university that is educated enough to really understand the man and what he is trying to accomplish in the world.

My 2005 movies of the year

Filed under: Movies — Andy @ 11:44 pm

Well, again i may be ahead of myself here, but these are some movies i liked.  now i’m no big time movie guy, i mostly go with what i’d enjoy watching again and again.  entertainment is a big part, not so much all the technical movie making aspects like “oh that movie has great lighting” or “wow that movie had amazing cinematography” and bla bla bla.

Overall I thought it was a fairly average movie year.  I dont think i’ll be buying any of these on dvd anytime soon.

1. Capote Capote

Philip Seymore Hoffman should win best actor.

2. Munich Munich (Widescreen Edition)

Wow spielberg managed to avoid some sappy, dramatic, and way too long ending.  good job.

3. Batman Begins Batman Begins (Widescreen Edition)

Finally a batman movie that wasn’t full of really lame actors and jokes.  just a good entertaining action movie for a non-comicbook fan like me.

Honorable mention: 40 year old virgin (best comedy), Good night and good luck (i like movies based on real historical events)

Those were the best, but these were also worth seeing:

Wedding crashers (laugh out loud funniest), Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (hey, pretty good job for a movie that didnt need updating), Murderball (even if you aren’t much into documentaries, this one is still worth seeing)

And I still need to see these before my list is really complete:

Walk the line, Syriana

I really refuse to see Brokeback mountain, i think its way overblown just because it has a gay-lover plotline.  Kinda like how i really didnt care to see million dollar baby last year because of its overblown controversial ending.  i only saw it because it actually won best picture.  probably have to be the same deal before i break down and see it.  although i never did see chicago…
