on to the road

Filed under: Job — Andy @ 7:05 pm

done with the initial classroom training and railroad yardwork practice.  now its time to actually train on the job.  over the next 6 weeks i’ll be shadowing people while they do their actual work.  this includes both yard jobs and road jobs.  it will be nice to essentially get paid to watch people work haha.

only thing that stinks is the hours…trainees get put on the worst jobs which means night jobs and yard jobs.  nights dont bother me, but i’d rather be on the road as a conductor than just a switchman in the yard.  although there is less work to do at night than during the day fwiw.

i’m gonna start looking for places to move to, i’d like to get moved out within the next 3-4 months.

Greatest week in K-State sports history?

Consider, last wednesday the 8th, Kstate locks up the #1 recruiting class in basketball for 2007, including the #1 overall player in Micheal Beasley.

The Huggins Era begins on saturday with a nice 10pt win at home.

Ron Prince solidfies his spot as Coach of the Year in the Big 12 by upsetting #3 Texas at home.

Then tonight, K-State gets a great win over Rutgers on the road, something the basketball team almost never does.

Then, ku loses AT HOME to Oral Roberts!!

Wow.  I’m overwhelmed.  I honestly don’t know how to react to so much positivity around Kansas State athletics.  Imagine if K-State drills ku saturday!!

started job

Filed under: Job, K-State Sports — Andy @ 5:06 pm

just finished up my 3rd day.  so far its starting out pretty much like conductor school did over the summer, which was expected.  got 100% on the Safety Final today which was all review for me.  This is really going to be a breeze for me and its nice to get paid at the same time.  only downside is the waking up early, i haven’t slept much this week but i think i’m slowly getting used to the hours.

I am liking how fast paced the class is, after the initial 3 week classroom work, its gonna be 2 months of on-the-job training, then finish up with 2 more weeks of classroom for a total of 14 weeks training.  pretty cool how i’ll already be on the job here in a few weeks.  also looking forward to the first paycheck.

in other news kstate’s first home basketball game (exhibition) is saturday and i’m hoping to make it to that, i got my season tickets in the mail yesterday.
