in light of the whirlwind of activity this week around Kansas State basketball, i give you this commentary I wrote on thursday on a messageboard:
While it was assured K-state would be the first to recieve the worst ever coaching screw-job in college sports history, i think i’m finally getting really disgusted with what college sports has become. I’ll always love K-State, but what we are competing with out there, well, I’m not sure we will ever be dirty enough to compete properly.
When i see schools like usc, ohio st, texas, and michigan on tv i just see greasy, big money, semi-pro farm clubs rather than universities. And when I see huggins and a lot of other heavy hitters moving around each year, it just shows its all about $$$ and selfishness. There is no love for the game or the schools or even the players. Its getting harder to watch everyday.

i was upset, but i realized its just the nature of the business. i did, however, have a feeling it would all turn out ok. I love the Martin hire, I think it was the only move that could have been made. the 4 players kstate signed for next year are a part of whats been called the #1 class in America and I think KSU needed to find a way to keep that in tact. Its not like Martin is completely unqualified, he’s certainly proven he can recruit with the best of them. Its also been said he runs practice and if you watched him on the sidelines he was as fiery as huggs and directed players on the court too. He certainly had plenty of success at the highest level in the Florida highschool system. He also is a better guy in general than huggs (not that that would be difficult).
I for one will be keeping my season tickets and be enjoying next year with even more enthusiasm than this past season.
