My political Leanings…for you andy. 1. I am 100 percent pro-choice 2. I believe that the rich rule American politics, and being that I am not rich, I hate that. 3. I think that social programs are the basis for any functioning society 3. I don’t think morality and religion should be the basis for any democratic government. 4. I like paying my taxes (because I like social programs, so I have to like paying my taxes). 5. I think that gay marriage should be a non-issue, it doesn’t matter who marries who. 6. I believe that the government should pass every environmental policy necessary to achieve sustainable progress. 7. I think the private school vouchers are unnecessary, and instead the federal government should work to improve the public school system. 8. Gun control. 10:14 AM – 2 Comments – 4 Kudos – Add Comment – |

okay, just so you so know sustainable development means:meeting today’s needs of development without compromising future generations’ ability to develop. Which has everything to do with the environment, because if we kill the earth, there will be nothing left for our children to kill.

I definitely don’t have the energy to get fully into this discussion, but I feel obligated to point out that people who really want to hurt other people will always find a way to do it. However, if they’re using a knife or their fists, they are not going to be able to take out quite as many people in one fell swoop. Unarmed people can fight one person with a knife much more effectively than they can one person with a gun. But hey, maybe we should just legalize car bombs, too, so that everything will be equal!

Here’s an idea. Since criminals are going to get guns regardless of whether or not they’re legal, how about we even the playing field. I know I’d think twice about trying to rob a store at gunpoint if I knew that every employee and customer could be carrying a gun themselves.

yes, totally agree with kelsey. gun control only hurts non-criminals because it takes away the ability for someone to defend themselves.
as for tana’s comment about killing our supposedly millions and billions of years old earth in a little over 100 years of american progress, well thats just typical fear-mongering from people who just want more control over your life. frankly, its ego-maniacal to think we can kill the earth and use up all its resources. quit trying to reduce everyones quality of life by these mindless and completely unproven scare tactics. read State of Fear by Micheal Crichton.

I just love reading your thoughts Andrew. Because I know they are informed and not just “feelings”.

“killing… earth in a little over 100 years of american progress”
I’m not saying I whole heartedly believe global warming will ruin the earth in 100 years or whatever, methinks most of those questions are too complicated to fully answer or dismiss as “fear-mongering” at this juncture, it should be a legitimate concern for everyone, and I’m glad there’s people out there studying it hard. I think, probably inadvertently, your POV is pretty americo-centric though, Andy. Remember industrialized countries (not just U.S.) have been pumping out the stuff for at least the past two centuries, and now the U.S. isn’t the big problem, it’s really China and India each with around 5x our population and none of our concern (except for money and fuck everything else). That’s a lot of pollution, pollution that even drifts across the Pacific and can be measured on our coast (so don’t say it won’t affect us, it already does, even if only a little).
And why should feelings be excluded, aren’t they just as much a part of what make us human? If we really pushed them aside for cold hard reason and logic what would the world look like then? You know, the Nazis had pieces of flair that they made the Jews wear…
Just some thoughts, and an office space quote.
