Achieving one of life’s great accomplishments

everyone has a list of things they want to get done before they die.  some are high reaching, some are just for fun, some define and change lives.  then there is what I accomplished today at 12:15am whilst playing Super Mario Bros.  Those under 25 may not understand, but there is an unlimited lives trick that involves repeatedly stomping on a turtle shell as it goes down the final stairs on level 3-1.  it requires special timing and some luck to pull it off and i’ve never done it before.  But that all changed and i have the cell pics to prove it, along with Will Gordon as my witness.

the 2nd pic i took later to show that i did indeed have over 125 lives.  This moment will truely go down as one of the greatest of my life, as it would anyone who accomplishes such a feat.  Your jealousy is understood.

  1. OMG cuz, that is sofa king awesome! This brings back amazing memories. You still have a functional original NES?!?!?! That’s a feat in and of itself! That was my favorite thing in SMB… the 1-up trick. Not to brag or anything, but I had mastered that turtle shell trick…although it took awhile to get the timing down on a consistent basis. I always let the turtle get down to the 2nd to last step before I did it. You were halfway up the staircase… impressive! There’s no better sound then the Super Mario Brothers “1UP” jingle in an infinite loop :-D

  2. not to burst your bubble but Ryan says he completed that as well. But good job anyways. I am sure I would never be able to do such a thing.

  3. actually mike i dont have an original NES anymore. i have a thing that lets me play nes games on my super nes. but for this if u look closely in the screen shots you’ll see that i was playing the mario all-stars version of mario one (on snes). i dont even own the original mario 1/duck hunt game anymore unfortunately.

and i do remember u were an expert at that move, i was quite jealous lol.

jo-i’m sure a lot of people have done it. i just hadn’t and it was a void in my gaming career. i think next in my list would be beating mike tyson’s punch out.
