the quick and easy fix to healthcare.

1. a cap on malpractice suits.  doctors often pay 10s of thousands and even in some areas hundreds of thousands of dollars a year on malpractice insurance premiums.  u cap what someone can sue a doctor for, you cut the cost to see doctors big time.

2. Everyone gets an account with somewhere between $3k and $5k a year for healthcare costs.  this could easily be paid for by scrapping ALL current inefficient and failing govt healthcare programs.

now, from this account you could choose to buy whatever private plans are out there (hopefully far less regulated), from disaster care to total coverage.  or you could just use it for regular visits, prescriptions, anything.  the key is creating consumer driven healthcare…like you see with car insurance.  a competitive marketplace of health.  and whatever you don’t spend on healthcare for the year from that account, you pocket.  thats the key.  u have the chance to pocket thousands a year by being smart about your own health and how you spend money on health…how could it not work?

jeez that took like 5 minutes to type up too.

  1. Interesting. I do have a question though. Would you make any changes to the way the insurance companies do business (i.e. preexisting conditions, refusal to pay, etc)? Even if I have $5,000 to spend on a private plan, I could still be denied coverage unless the system is reformed.

  2. currently private ins is too regulated. a lot of states have mandates on what private ins has to cover and there are laws against selling ins across state lines too. if private ins companies can have the freedom to tailor-make plans and sell them nation-wide for all kinds of people, pre-existing conditions or not, i think you’ll see more people covered and for less money.

if you think about it, even the worst drivers can still get affordable car ins. companies will want this money that everyone has…they’ll make it work even for the sickest and oldest people. i believe that anyway.

  5. Andy, you and I may not agree on a lot of things politically, but I think we can agree that Mr. Anonymous is a creeper. 🙂
